North Polk board hears progress report on CTE addition, turf and concession work; winterization planned

Construction staff updated the North Polk board Dec. 17 on progress at the CTE addition and the athletic fields, including roofing and enclosure plans, turf timing and factory warranty issues on rooftop HVAC units.
The construction representative said structural steel for the CTE addition is nearly complete, with roofing and storefront/window installation scheduled the week following the meeting. Once the building is enclosed and heated, crews will pour slabs and begin interior framing. The manager said three rooftop unit parts are ordered and scheduled to be replaced under manufacturer warranty to address heating/humidity concerns in several units.
On the athletic fields, green turf and warning track work is underway at the baseball field; the softball field turf will wait until spring to install. For the concessions building, the contractor will use temporary winter conditions (scaffold and plastic enclosures) to allow wall construction and roofing while protecting the work from cold weather; administration estimated temporary heating/winterization would cost about $18,000, largely labor to enclose scaffolding.
Why it matters: The CTE addition and athletic improvements are district capital projects affecting students and event schedules. Trustees said they remain comfortable with contingency balances but highlighted the need to monitor warranty and closeout items.
