VERONA, N.J. — Denise, a member of the Verona Board of Education, told colleagues on Aug. 26 that this was her final board meeting after accepting a new position that required an earlier start than expected. Members offered personal tributes and thanked her for service.
Denise said the opportunity materialized faster than anticipated and thanked fellow board members and staff, saying she would remain involved in the community. Board members described Denise as a valued colleague and discussed whether to fill the vacancy now or allow the November process to determine the next member. One member recommended permitting the will of the voters to decide given the calendar.
Several board members and district staff thanked Denise for her contributions to the district and noted they expect she will remain an involved resident and parent.
What's next: The board did not take a formal vote to fill the seat at the Aug. 26 meeting and signaled they would decide whether to appoint a replacement or wait for the next election process in the coming weeks.
