Council fixes $600 qualifying fee for Nov. 4 municipal election; ordinance first read

The Mableton City Council approved a resolution on Jan. 22 setting the qualifying fee for candidates in the Nov. 4, 2025 municipal election at $600. The city clerk said state law requires publication of the fee by Feb. 1; staff will publish the notice in the legal organ.
Council also heard a first reading of an ordinance to establish city election procedures under chapter 2 of the city code and to name the city clerk as municipal election superintendent. The city attorney said an intergovernmental agreement with Cobb County that sets out administration and cost responsibilities is forthcoming and is expected for council consideration before the next meeting.
Councilmembers were informed that qualifying will be conducted by county staff at the city's administrative offices, with qualifying scheduled for Aug. 18–20, 2025 (8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. with an hour for lunch). The ordinance will return for second reading at a future meeting so the city can meet publication and filing deadlines.
