Bellevue council approves rezoning, compensation rule and multiple contracts; awards $2.69M wastewater contract

Bellevue City Council on Jan. 20 adopted a series of ordinances and approved contracts and purchases, including a $2,689,482.25 contract award for the Haworth Park water/wastewater project and a compensation ordinance to comply with state minimum-wage requirements.
The council voted to adopt Ordinance No. 4170, approving a rezoning request for property near 10711 Old 36th Street for single-family residential development. It also approved a small-subdivision plat for Perez Addition Replat 2 (lots 1 and 2). The council adopted Ordinance No. 4174, the city’s compensation ordinance, after suspending the three-reading rule so the ordinance could be heard and voted on the same night.
In its consent and current-business agenda the council authorized multiple purchases and agreements, including:
- A master services agreement with Sentinel Technologies Inc. for internet and cybersecurity services, not to exceed $80,693.37 (motion by Preister, second Collins; all voting yes). - Purchase of a John Deere 320P backhoe for the Street Department from Murphy Tractor, not to exceed $112,500 (motion by Preister, second Casey; all voting yes). - A rooftop HVAC unit purchase for District 1 Fire Station from Helm, not to exceed $45,978 (motion by Burns, second Collins; all voting yes). - A Laser ZX Series 31 mower for the cemetery from J & J Small Engine, not to exceed $16,857 (motion by Collins, second Casey; all voting yes). - A preliminary engineering services agreement with Olsen Inc. for the Cornhusker Road/36th Street/Fort Crook project, not to exceed $24,000.69, by Resolution No. 2025-02 (motion by Casey, second Burns; all voting yes). - Notice of award and contract with Hymas Corp. for the Haworth Park water/wastewater system, not to exceed $2,689,482.25 (motion by Burns, second Casey; all voting yes).
Several other professional-service agreements and purchases were approved, including an MS4 annual-reporting agreement with Alfred Benish & Company (not to exceed $14,946) and a fleet camera installation (not to exceed $27,845.32). The council also approved participation in the Sarpy Douglas Law Enforcement Academy interlocal agreement and awarded miscellaneous smaller procurements listed in the meeting packet.

The council set a second reading and public hearing for Ordinance No. 4175 (ward-boundary amendment to account for recent annexation) for Feb. 4, 2025.
