“...this guy that said I followed him afterwards, and he went to another guy that was playing, strings on the mall and complained to him too,” Siegel said. She said the musicians were not amplifying and that the exchange took place near the courthouse area. “He said… 'the police are right over there. I'm just telling you, like, I you know, people do it all the time, but you could be cited for it, and the police are right over there.' So it's very intimidating,” she said.
Siegel urged the commission not to use tax dollars to cite performers during community events. “I don't want my tax dollars stopping, pulling people over for playing music on the mall,” she said, adding the comparison that the incident felt heavy-handed given other city priorities.
Commissioners acknowledged the comment and invited no immediate action; staff or commissioners did not provide a policy response at the meeting. The exchange was recorded as part of public comment and the commission did not take formal action.
