East Meadow students present art and portraits to board during School Board Recognition Week

Art students from W. T. Clark and East Meadow High School presented original works and portraits to board members in recognition of New York State School Board Recognition Week. Teachers and student artists were named; new board members received official portraits to be displayed in the district.
Students from W. T. Clark and East Meadow High School presented original landscape drawings and paintings to the East Meadow Union Free School District Board of Education Oct. 7 as gifts in recognition of School Board Recognition Week.
Heather Anastasio, District Art Department chairperson, said the artworks were created by AP Studio Art and Advanced Studio Art students under the direction of teachers Brian O'Neil and Ingo Prangenberg. Anastasio thanked the board for "your time, effort, and dedication to the students and community of East Meadow" and noted the pieces were a "heartfelt tribute" from the students.
The district also presented official portraits for newly seated board members Siobhan Locastro and Dina Fernandez; the portraits will hang at Salisbury School. Student artists named during the presentation included Malia Fatima (senior) and Maralee Strogluitz (junior). District staff and the board thanked the students and teachers for their contributions.
The presentation prefaced routine business that followed on the agenda; no formal motions or votes were associated with the art presentation itself.
