East Meadow board adopts Title IX harassment grievance policy after second reading

The East Meadow Union Free School District Board of Education voted unanimously (6-0) to adopt Policy 0111, "Harassment Grievances under Title IX," following a second reading at its Oct. 7 meeting.
District staff gave the second reading and said the policy is required by federal regulation and "basically outlines the actions the district will take when presented with a complaint of harassment under Title IX," and that "there've been no changes to the policy since our first reading," according to the staff presentation.
The board held the required second reading in public before taking a roll-call voice vote. The board president called for a motion to adopt the policy; the motion was made and the board chair recorded the vote as 6-0 in favor. The adopted policy will be added to the district policy manual.
No public commentary or amendments to the policy were recorded during the second reading. District staff said the policy text remained the same as presented at the prior meeting in September.
Board adoption of Policy 0111 fulfills the district's obligation to have a Title IX grievance process in place; the staff presentation noted the policy describes the district's procedures for responding to complaints of harassment covered by Title IX.
