Resort representative briefs council on summer projects, parking and stalled gondola litigation

Dave Fields, introduced at the meeting as a nearby resort representative, updated the council on resort operations and summer projects. He said the new summit restaurant (working name "Midgad") is structurally complete with glass installed and is expected to open for the coming winter season. Other summer work includes replacement of snowmaking pipe, hotel remodels, parking lot paving, installation of four new "Vision towers" and expanded carpool parking and EV chargers.
Fields and councilors discussed canyon transportation: Fields said UTA ski buses and private shuttles were heavily used last winter and at peak times the buses are at capacity "sitting and standing," leaving guests and employees without seats during peak evening commute times. Fields said staff and guest van programs (including a 34‑van rideshare last winter) and the UTA programs have helped, but he urged continued focus on bus capacity and clearer shuttle naming.
When asked about the gondola litigation, Fields said plaintiffs recently presented information in an administrative‑record hearing (Judge Tina Campbell took that evidence under advisement) and staff had no projected timeline for a ruling. He said litigation has put project progress on hold and that short‑term workarounds are being discussed with UDOT and other parties, but cautioned that judicial timetables are independent of other timelines (including the 2034 Olympics).
Fields also previewed Oktoberfest plans (expanded grounds and a dedicated shuttle) and other summer events. Council thanked him for the update and discussed continued coordination on traffic, parking enforcement and shuttle capacity.
