Emily Houston, contract planner for Marion, reported that Madsen Custom Homes, on behalf of the property owner of 1150 Seventh Ave (Marion Antiques), has applied for a Central Quarter facade alteration. The proposal would remove the building’s existing awning and install architectural steel siding on the front facade; the applicant selected black to align with detailing on neighboring properties.
The property lies in the Uptown‑1 zoning district and the project has undergone Central Corridor review, including Historic Preservation Commission review, a Planning & Zoning hearing and review by the Uptown Design Committee. Planning & Zoning recommended the proposal 6‑0. Staff said the applicant cited cost as a reason to choose architectural steel siding rather than replacing the awning with a similarly detailed fabric structure.
