Sunrise commission approves budget amendments, board appointments and sole‑source HVAC purchase

The Sunrise City Commission approved multiple routine governance items at its meeting, including a second‑reading ordinance amending the fiscal year 2024–25 budget, appointments to two advisory boards and a sole‑source procurement for HVAC parts and services.

The commission voted 5–0 to adopt the final budget amendment on second reading, which modifies funding in the police confiscation (fund 194), sanitation (fund 430) and recycling (fund 435) accounts. City staff said no members of the public came forward during the public hearing on the item.

Separately, the commission unanimously approved two advisory board appointments. A resolution appointing Barry Barnes and Michael Azoy to the Veterans Advisory Board passed 5–0 after Commissioner Joseph Scudo moved the slate and the motion was seconded by Assistant Deputy Mayor Jacqueline A. Guzman. The commission also appointed Michelle DeFreitas to the Sustainability Advisory Board on a 5–0 vote after discussion of the applicants.

The commission approved a resolution authorizing a sole‑source purchase of parts and services from Cary’s Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. The procurement appeared on the consent calendar and passed 5–0.

One development item was removed from the agenda at staff’s request. Economic development staff told the commission they had held additional meetings with the project developer about exterior enhancements and asked that the Pine Island Park loan commitment item be pulled and returned to a future meeting once staff and the developer were prepared to present final materials.

All formal votes recorded at the meeting were unanimous (5–0).
