The Johnston City Council adopted Ordinance 1127 on third reading to implement Metro Waste Authority's rate increases for organized collection, set to take effect July 1, 2025.
City staff said the local fees are a pass-through of Metro Waste Authority charges; the city retains a $1 administrative fee that is not changing. Staff reported a 1.6% increase in the solid-waste collection charge and a 1.3% increase in the recycling charge compared with current rates. Staff recommended adoption; council approved the third and final reading by roll call.
The ordinance will become effective July 1, 2025 according to staff presentation.
