The county’s Information Systems (IS) director briefed the council on departmental operations, workload and cybersecurity efforts.
IS staff described a wide technology footprint: 71 network locations across the county; more than 3,500 connected devices including desktop computers, phones and public Wi‑Fi; 228 servers and 106 distinct software applications; and about 1,200 employees supported. The department told the council it completed nearly 9,000 service calls last year and was on pace for about 10,000 this year, resolving roughly two-thirds of incidents the same day.
On development and maintenance, IS reported 67 active projects, 81 completed in 2024 and 32 completed so far in the current year. Maintenance and patches remain a large part of the workload; the department reported more than 12,500 mitigated vulnerabilities in the calendar year and said daily firewall protections block millions of potentially malicious packets.
IS staff described ongoing challenges including shadow IT (unauthorized technology use), rising software-as-a-service license costs, and continuing employee-risk events. Council members thanked the director for the work and asked staff to continue focusing on security and uptime while balancing development needs for county departments.
