Council approves residential permit parking around Saint Charles Convention Center

The Saint Charles County Council approved ordinance 54-21 to create a residential permit-parking zone for neighborhoods bordering the Saint Charles Convention Center and its event parking lots.
Councilwoman York, who had worked with neighborhood representatives on the proposal, said the change responds to large events that place convention-center attendees in nearby residential streets. The approved ordinance allows a limited number of permits per household (the council indicated four permits will be issued at no charge) and establishes administrative procedures for implementing the zone.
Supporters described long-running parking stress during big conventions and said a permit program would help residents and their guests find reliable parking without forcing attendees to use neighborhood streets. The council also encouraged long-term solutions such as a parking garage in the city of Saint Charles; that would be a separate municipal decision.
The ordinance passed on roll call. Details about sign locations, enforcement, and permit distribution will be finalized by county staff under the authority granted by the ordinance.
