City to accept donation, relocate and restore Jenny Dean Model Cottage

The Manassas City Council on Feb. 11 approved a donation agreement with Virginia Electric and Power Company to accept and relocate the Jenny Dean Model Cottage, a surviving structure from the Manassas Industrial School campus.
City staff explained the cottage dates from about 1914–1915 and was discovered on its current Jefferson Street site after being moved there in the 1960s. The donor, the utility company referenced in staff materials, agreed to donate the structure to the city. Staff said the city will plan the cottage’s relocation after the new Jenny Dean Elementary School is fully complete and will pursue exterior restoration to match the early‑20th‑century appearance once a relocation site and restoration design are finalized.
Council adopted resolution R2025‑540 to accept the donation and authorized staff to proceed with design and moving plans. Council members and staff thanked community members who helped identify the structure and pledged to work with the community on the restoration timeline.
