Residents say lack of recorded visitor comments leaves public remarks off the record; council approves minutes amid debate
Summary
During the Nov. 4 meeting residents raised concerns that a recent meeting lacked a recorded visitors' comment period and that public remarks made after adjournment were not on the public record. The council discussed the issue while approving minutes from Oct. 21, 2025, and residents urged the council to restore a recorded comment period.

Residents told the Yukon City Council on Nov. 4 that the absence of a recorded visitors' comment period at the council’s previous meeting left public remarks unrecorded and denied citizens a public-record avenue to address the council. Stephanie Burdine (515 Maple) said the post-meeting practice of two members staying to hear comments left "nothing recorded of public record" and argued visitors' comments should be on the official record.
Council members and other residents debated the format. One council member said she valued the ability to speak after the meeting because it allows back-and-forth dialogue, while Burdine and others said that oral remarks should also be captured on the official record so that the public and others can review what was said. A mayoral response noted that at this moment the only item before the body was approval of the minutes, but the public speakers urged the council to address the broader visitors' comment policy.
After discussion, the council voted to approve the minutes of the Oct. 21, 2025 regular meeting (the minutes had been pulled from the consent docket for separate consideration). The vote to approve the minutes passed by roll call with no recorded opposition.
Votes at a glance: approval of Oct. 21, 2025 minutes (Wooten; Selby; Zimmerman; Hillmore).
