Chief Chris Mace told the board that La Verne’s computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system had been compromised and that department statistics were not immediately available as a result. "All of our statistics are attached to our CAD system, which has been compromised," he said during departmental reports.
Mace gave a staffing update and recruitment snapshot: he said 89 positions were either filled or had a candidate attached; several initial offers are pending completion of hiring steps; eight patrol candidates were in background checks; and the city has multiple open positions in dispatch and patrol. He said three promotional opportunities (including a captain and a detective) were opened for application and that three new officers had a badge-pending ceremony and would soon enter field training.
Fire Chief Beasley praised the dispatch office and said the fire department experienced the same CAD challenges but has been able to use an outside software app to record and share run information while the CAD issue is resolved. "I can't say enough about what they do for the city and for the fire and police department," Beasley said of dispatch staff.
The board asked questions about staffing and data gaps. City staff acknowledged some missing run-time numbers in the fire report and said recruiting and careful hiring remained priorities. No formal actions were taken on staffing at the meeting; the reports were informational.
