STEM addition steel is up; Enfield and other projects near completion as school year approaches

Travis Randall, project manager for Campus Construction Management, told the committee that structural steel for the Ithaca High School STEM addition is in place and that roofing and decking work there is nearing completion. Randall described active work across multiple phases: punch-list items at Boynton, DeWitt and South Hill; a delayed facade/canopy finish at Enfield that was extended by abatement work but expected to be completed with minimal disruption; work at Beverly J. Martin Elementary School on punch lists; Boynton kitchen hood and floor work ready for final inspections; and mechanical commissioning and balancing tasks at other sites.

Randall said some work would continue after students return but that most classrooms and areas would be occupiable at the start of school; he emphasized weekly coordination with high-school leadership and near-daily communications with staff as spaces progress to readiness. He also described a backup boiler at Bell Sherman awaiting parts, and recommended third-party commissioning where appropriate to complete mechanical acceptance.

Why it matters: The update provides the community with the status of multi-year capital-project work that began with a prior referendum cycle and continues into the current school year. Students and staff should expect some exterior finishing or limited after-hours work in the early weeks of school.
