Commissioner Jake Callihan said the county initially expected to have in-house crews build an eight-foot sidewalk around the building, but recent weather and short staff made that unrealistic. Callihan presented an estimate of $40,700 from a subcontractor to complete the front sidewalks. He said using the building contingency to pay the cost would largely deplete that fund. Chairman David Poindexter said the funds can come from the Use Tax account, and Poindexter moved to approve the turnkey sidewalks; the motion carried unanimously.
Callihan also said crews are working on the parking lot when weather allows but that the lot will need crusher-run rock to prepare for REC day. The motion approved the turnkey front sidewalks and identifies the Use Tax account as the funding source; minutes record no additional bid process for the sidewalk work at this meeting.
