The Forest Lake City Council on Jan. 27 adopted Resolution 01272505 approving city‑initiated amendments to the comprehensive plan's tables and supporting data. Staff said the changes update acreage and density tables using improved GIS and housing‑units analysis; the amendments do not change future land‑use map categories or reassign any property.
Planner Abby explained the mid‑cycle update was intended to set a more accurate baseline for the longer 2050 comprehensive‑plan process and to reconcile minor inconsistencies between Forest Lake's land‑use data and the Metropolitan Council's datasets. Staff emphasized that no properties would be rezoned and that metropolitan‑statistical boundaries and urban service requirements would not change as part of this action.
The Planning Commission held a public hearing on Dec. 11; no public testimony was received and the commission recommended approval. Staff reported ongoing coordination with Met Council staff and said the Met Council understood the city's intent to create a more realistic baseline for future housing planning.
A councilmember moved to approve Resolution 01272505; the motion passed by voice vote. Staff will submit the adopted amendment to the Metropolitan Council for formal review and acknowledgement following council action.
