Two residents used the public comment period to raise concerns about parks and neighborhood safety.
Alejandro Martinez urged the commission to reconsider elements of the Ronzelli Park redesign, saying the park has been under redevelopment for more than a year and criticizing the installation of artificial turf and removal of trees that reduced shade. Martinez said the artificial turf and loss of canopy were “disappointing” and raised concerns about the appearance and long‑term usability of the park.
Samantha Morales spoke on behalf of Little Abner residents, describing construction debris, illegal dumping, squatters and theft in the neighborhood. Morales said the area includes more than 200 families and noted particular concern for children, seniors and residents on fixed incomes.
Mayor Diaz responded to the comments, describing the park resurfacing and drainage work as designed to improve playability and reduce cancellations because the fields dry faster after rain. He said pickleball courts and other park amenities were starting construction and publicly thanked parks staff for their work. On Little Abner, the mayor reminded residents that the area is in an evacuation zone in the event of a hurricane and urged residents not to remain in the neighborhood during such events; he also offered staff follow‑up to address debris and storm‑drain concerns. Commissioners acknowledged the concerns and asked staff to address cleanup and storm‑drain maintenance.
