The City Commission of the City of Sweetwater voted to authorize the creation of a limited liability company to finance, construct and manage a multifamily residential rental project that will include a workforce‑housing component. The resolution finds that the project serves a public purpose and authorized the mayor and city attorney to take steps to incorporate the LLC and execute associated documents, including waivers of certain impact fees.
Mayor Diaz publicly thanked the city finance director for work on the project and said the initiative represents a new approach for the city. "This is something I think this is a first of its kind and the way it's being done. And I think we're making history tonight in the city of Sweetwater," Mayor Diaz said during remarks introducing the resolution.
The motion to adopt the resolution was moved by Commissioner Reynaldo Rey and seconded on the floor by Commissioner Monty. The commission approved the resolution by roll call. Commissioners noted the public purpose finding and the inclusion of a workforce‑housing component in the project description. The resolution also authorized expenditure of funds and a waiver of certain impact fees as described in the staff packet attached to the agenda.
Staff indicated follow‑up actions will include drafting and filing incorporation documents for the LLC and preparing implementation steps for the workforce‑housing component; the resolution grants authority to the mayor and the city attorney to complete those actions.
