"We're not just doing the work, we're teaching the work," Valenta said, describing invitations to national educational certificate programs to present the county's curriculum.
The declaration underscores the county's support for adoption, reunification work and volunteer and foster programs, Valenta said, and commissioners praised the shelter's volunteer base and donation support. A motion to approve the recognition was moved and seconded; the court recorded a unanimous vote, 5-0.
The proclamation directs staff to continue outreach and fundraising efforts and acknowledges the upcoming Furball gala; no additional county funds were requested at the time of the vote.
The court did not take separate budgetary action tied to the proclamation. Commissioners encouraged residents to purchase tickets or donate to the shelter's life-saving fund.
