Henderson County Commissioners Court unanimously adopted a court order designating the County Attorney’s Office as the county’s official mailing address for public information requests and the GovQA portal as the county’s open-records center, in compliance with a law change effective Sept. 1.
Mr. Strong explained the order responds to a statutory requirement that counties identify mailing and electronic addresses for public information requests and notify the Texas Attorney General. The county’s GovQA portal has facilitated records requests in recent years; the order memorializes the existing process and directs the county to route requests through the designated email and portal.
Mr. Strong told the court the county attorney’s office currently handles about 20 public-information requests per week and that the GovQA portal has helped manage the volume. Court members voted unanimously to approve the order and authorized all necessary signatures.
The court’s action documents the county’s existing practice rather than changing how residents submit requests; Mr. Strong said residents may still mail requests if they prefer, but the portal and the designated email address will serve as the county’s official points of contact for open-record requests going forward.
