Suwannee County Public Works rolls out compactors, expands paving capacity and schedules intersection updates

Public Works gave an update to the Suwannee County commission on Nov. 4 detailing solid‑waste and roadway work. Miss Flanagan said the department completed four concrete compactors pads and expects to have 11–12 pads installed by April, enabling roll‑off compactors to replace front‑load dumpsters and extend transfer‑station life.
Roadway work described by Flanagan and county pavement staff includes a leveling course on 113th in McAlpin, shoulder clipping on 133rd in preparation for asphalt, resurfacing on 80th Street and County Road 137 widening between US‑90 and CR‑136 (target April 2026 design agreement). The board heard DOT recommendations to convert an intersection (216th and 409th/CR‑49 area) to a 4‑way stop; the county will install signage and a message board and intends to implement the stop later this month.
Commissioner White described a recent investment in a commercial paving box and additional paving equipment that county staff said has sped production and will allow the county to pave more segments in‑house. Commissioners praised the road crew’s improved output and noted continuing coordination with FDOT on larger projects such as CR‑250.
