BID opens façade grant applications; board discusses Gold Level sketch and moving planters to Sixth Avenue

The board noted one application is nearly ready and likely to be awarded; staff said some funds could roll back into the pool if scheduled projects do not complete by February. Staff encouraged property owners who have expressed interest to apply or meet with staff for assistance.
Separately, staff described a Gold Level Community benefit that provides a free façade sketch (a design sketch, not construction drawings) for one participating building. Board members recommended the program include a basic financial-readiness check before allocating the one-time sketch so the city does not produce a design for an owner without plans or funds to complete a project.
Board members also discussed a spring project to move some of the smaller flower planters from Main Street to Sixth Avenue to even out streetscape treatment and create more continuity across downtown. Parks staff will assess logistics (some planters must be emptied of soil to move) and maintenance implications.
Staff said the applications and updated guidelines are posted on the website and that staff will proactively contact property owners who previously expressed interest.
