Orland Park trustees approve OPPSA contract, adopt ordinance on police appointments

The Village of Orland Park Board of Trustees voted to adopt a resolution approving and authorizing the execution of a collective bargaining agreement between the village and the Orland Park Police Supervisors Association (OPPSA) covering 2023–2028, and immediately adopted a related ordinance amending Title 8, Police, Chapter 1 of the Orland Park Village Code regarding appointment of certain police officers.
Trustee John Lawler, who moved the resolution, said he was “glad we could get this done and … work things out with the village.” The motion was seconded and carried on a roll-call vote in which all trustees present recorded “aye.”
After the votes, union representatives addressed the board. “My name is Jim Driven. I’m the vice president of the OBPSA,” said Jim Driven, and Tim O’Connell, a sergeant and the union secretary, spoke briefly in support. Trustees thanked the union representatives and village staff for reaching agreement.
The ordinance changes to Title 8 were presented and adopted as part of the same package; trustees described the two items as coordinated and moving in tandem. The board did not discuss substantive text changes to the ordinance on the record beyond noting the items were related and were a long-running negotiation that the board was ready to finalize.
The board moved on to other agenda items after the votes. No dissenting votes on the contract or the ordinance were recorded.
