The Deerfield Beach City Commission unanimously approved allocations for the fiscal year Community Participation Grant Program at its March 4 meeting, endorsing staff and evaluation committee recommendations to award funds up to a total of $150,000.
Jonathan Sallis, director of community services, presented the program: staff received 14 applications totaling just over $232,000 in requests, while the budgeted amount is $150,000. The committee changed the scoring this year to better align applications with the city's strategic plan, focusing on environment, quality of life, local preference, customer care and engagement. Sallis asked the commission to adopt the evaluation committee's recommendation.
A member of the public asked whether the grant budget could be increased in future budget cycles; commissioners said the grant budget is set during the annual budget process and can be adjusted by policy direction during budget deliberations. With no further public comment, the commission approved the recommendation by roll call.
