Summary
Amy Crouch White told councilors she has lived in Satellite Beach her entire life, raised two sons here and has long used and volunteered at city recreational facilities; council members praised her community involvement and confirmed the Recreation Board meets the third Tuesday every other month at 6 p.m.
Amy Crouch White, a lifelong Satellite Beach resident and recreation volunteer, spoke to councilors Nov. 5 about her interest in serving on the city's Recreation Board.
"I've lived here all my life. Had the privilege of raising my two boys here," Amy Crouch White said, noting she and her family have used the city's recreational facilities for t-ball, soccer, basketball, football, the skate park and bike paths. She described herself as "outdoorsy" and said she volunteers with local schools and substitutes from time to time.
Council members thanked White for volunteering and said her background using city facilities and promoting youth activity would be a good fit for the board, which one councilor noted meets the third Tuesday of every other month at 6 p.m. in the same council chambers. A councilor who said she is a longtime friend of White also endorsed her application during the workshop.
As with the library applicant, the council conducted only a brief interview; the chair said formal appointment decisions would be taken later in the regular meeting and that applicants would be notified. There was no motion, second or vote recorded as part of the workshop discussion on White's application.
White said she hopes to bring new ideas to the Recreation Board and to help promote participation in city programs and facilities. Councilors expressed appreciation for her volunteer history and said they look forward to considering her application during the formal appointment process.
No funding, programmatic changes or formal board assignments were made during the workshop portion of the meeting.
