Volunteers described the Light the World Giving Machine program and announced it will be in Queen Creek at Pecan Lake Entertainment from Nov. 14 through Dec. 7.
Jeff Wold, a local organizer, said the initiative began in 2017 and that the vending‑style machines let donors select a charity and make a donation for a specific item in the machine. “These giving machines are found in a 150 locations throughout the world and, historically have just been in in Gilbert here here in the valley primarily,” Wold said, adding that the program has raised more than $50 million globally.
Wold said three local charities were included among the rotating beneficiaries: the Mary Gloria Foundation (as stated by the speaker), the House of Refuge, and Harvest Pack. He also listed two statewide charities — the Arizona Foundation for Foster Children and Hope Women’s Center — and two global charities, Mentors International and Days for Girls. The giving machines will include a range of gift options, from shoes and socks to small livestock used in international aid programs.
Wold asked residents to attend and to consider the machines’ dual purpose of fundraising and raising awareness of local needs; the council did not take formal action on the presentation.
