She said staff have shared community resource information (including Second Harvest Food Bank) and that some sites are planning food drives.
Hickey noted news reports that a federal judge ordered continuation of SNAP benefits, but she warned that delays could persist while benefits are restored. The district intends to distribute donated gift cards immediately where possible rather than waiting for a larger, slower fundraising effort.
Trustees expressed appreciation for proactive outreach and for community partners stepping in to address potential food insecurity while the benefits situation resolves.
