The Port Angeles City Council unanimously adopted a resolution formally adopting the 2024 Clallam County Multi‑Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan updates hazard mapping for coastal flooding, earthquakes and landslides, integrates wildfire interface risk assessments within the city limits for the first time, and inventories critical infrastructure for mitigation prioritization.
Chief Sharp presented the plan and said it "serves as our community's roadmap for reducing the impacts of natural and human caused disasters," listing earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, landslides and wildfires among the top hazards and noting the update advances the city’s eligibility for future federal hazard mitigation grants.
Council members praised the stakeholder engagement process and the plan’s detailed action table. Council member Miller highlighted pages that chart each mitigation action ID, ownership, timeline and potential funding sources. Council member Latricia urged staff to track which actions from the 2019 plan were completed and suggested adding a column to Table 5‑2 to indicate completed items.
A later procedural motion to require staff to update Table 5‑2 to mark completed actions failed for lack of a second. Chief Sharp agreed to provide a status update to council at a future meeting.
The resolution to adopt the plan passed unanimously.
