The Friends of the Lynchburg Public Library announced they raised more than $278,000 toward a planned bookmobile, and council unanimously approved appropriating the funds so the library can purchase and operate the vehicle.
Megan Fallon, representing the Friends, told council the fundraising came from individuals, corporations, grants and foundations and that the nonprofit would purchase the vehicle while the city would add it to the municipal fleet and provide ongoing operational service. Fallon said the bookmobile will expand access to books and digital resources in underserved neighborhoods, senior centers, daycares and community events.
Council members praised the public'private partnership and emphasized there is no fiscal impact to Lynchburg taxpayers because the funds are privately raised. A motion to appropriate $278,000 into the FY2026 City Federal State Aid Fund for the purchase of the bookmobile passed 6 to 0 with one absence.
