Jeffrey Roby addressed council during the public-comment period requesting that the city reconsider reinstating funding for Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living (CVACL). He said CVACL administers federal Older Americans Act programs in Lynchburg and the surrounding counties and relies on local funds to match federal allocations.
Roby detailed the agency's Lynchburg-area services in the prior year: roughly 8,415 home-delivered meals, 600 in-home needs assessments, and more than 1,300 one-way medical trips, plus nutrition education and a Farm Market Fresh program for seniors. He warned that removing local funding would jeopardize hundreds of thousands of federal and private dollars and reduce services for older adults and caregivers.
Roby thanked council members for reconsidering the agency's place in the upcoming budget and said restored local support would allow the organization to continue meal delivery, care coordination and other supports for vulnerable residents.
