District honors teacher who painted Vista Verde mural and bus driver who saved a toddler

Jenny Trujillo, a Vista Verde teacher, was praised for volunteering during the summer to paint a seascape mural on campus, funded in part by the school PTO. Principal Patty Barber and board member Patty Hernandez described the mural’s week‑by‑week improvement and said it improved campus climate.
Patty Clark, a district bus driver, was recognized for intervening when a 2‑year‑old left home unnoticed, walked toward a school bus and hid behind a parked car. Clark stopped the bus, took the child aboard, spent time calming and supervising the child while staff and first responders searched for the parent, and helped reunite the child with family once located. Trustees said Clark’s actions likely prevented harm and presented the driver with a certificate and group photo.
Both employees briefly addressed the board; Clark said she acted because "I care about our kids, and I would treat them like it was one of my own," and Trujillo thanked the district for allowing her to complete the mural.
