The department said it serves hundreds of seniors daily, transports thousands of riders each year, and provides tens of thousands of meals including homebound deliveries. Staff asked for modest increases in maintenance materials and fuel budgets, and for capital funding to acquire a Kubota excavator and a Nifty lift to service lighting and tall fixtures in ball fields and parks. The department called attention to an aging vehicle fleet: it said 5 of 11 vans are more than 10 years old and that a driver position previously funded by a grant should be restored to the operating budget because the grant will end in 2026.
Parks staff also listed building maintenance needs at community centers, including interior painting, HVAC repairs, door and ramp repairs, and parking-lot work. The department noted partnerships with precincts and cities for some tasks and acknowledged that law-enforcement and other priorities may lead to staggered capital funding.
No formal action took place; staff provided capital-priority lists and said they would submit more detailed cost estimates to commissioners for consideration during the budget adoption process.
