Lewiston council appoints Matthew James Joseph Wright to fill vacant seat through December 2025

Mayor Johnson explained the process required by Idaho Code 50-704 for filling a council vacancy and said he had reviewed applications, taken individual councilor input and citizen comments, and would present three nominations to the council. The three names the mayor placed before the council were Robert Michael Lorenz, Matthew James Joseph Wright and Douglas j Wilson.
The council considered the candidates in order. A motion to appoint Robert Michael Lorenz failed. The council next considered Matthew James Joseph Wright; a motion to appoint him was moved, seconded and carried. Clerk Brockie recorded the result and the council welcomed Matthew James Joseph Wright to the council for the remainder of the term through December 2025.
At the start of the meeting several applicants had offered citizen comments introducing themselves and their backgrounds. Those who spoke at the public podium during the citizen comment period and who had applied for the vacancy included Alan Brown (works at SEL), Linda Glanz (Lewiston resident), Matthew James Joseph Wright (works at Cambia Health Solutions), Bob Blakey (former councilor) and Douglas j Wilson (business owner/entrepreneur). The mayor said he considered councilor feedback, citizen comments and candidate outreach when making his nominations.
Next steps: staff will follow up with the appointed councilor on orientation and reassignment of council boards and commissions seats previously held by departing members.
