USEP votes to remain bargaining agent; union urges action over frozen federal education funds

The United School Employees of Pasco reported to the Pasco County School Board that 98.2% of instructional employees voted to keep USEP as their official bargaining agent in a mail election, and the union raised alarms about federal grant funding the union said has been frozen.
Mr. Larson, speaking on behalf of USEP, told the board the election count was conducted on June 27 in Tallahassee by the Public Employee Relations Commission and that the result "means that we will continue to do what we do" on collective bargaining for instructional staff.
Larson also said the union is "very seriously concerned" about what he described as the federal government freezing previously promised education grant funding and warned the decision "could have disastrous implications if it is not reversed." The union representative offered to work with the district to assess potential impacts.
The board did not take formal action on the federal funding issue during the meeting; district leadership later described the district-level estimate of affected federal Title grant funds as about $8.5 million and said staff are awaiting clarification from federal officials before making budget adjustments.
