Board approves $120 monthly increase for board chair pay

The Monticello Public School District board approved an increase to the board chair stipend at its Feb. 24 meeting.

Director of Business Services Tina Burkholder told the board the recommendation responds to the additional meetings and responsibilities for the chair role. Under the proposal, regular board members receive $320.49 monthly; the recommended board-chair compensation was set at $441.50 per month (an increase of $120 above the current board-member rate). The board approved the increase by voice vote, 5—0.

Burkholder said the intent is to recognize additional work by the chair without creating an expectation that every chair will perform the same level of extra tasks; the adjustment aims for a middle ground.

The pay change was recorded as an action and passed unanimously.
