Anson High awarded $300,000 Golden Leaf grant to expand agricultural CTE offerings

Dr. Pratt announced the district has been awarded a $300,000 Golden Leaf grant to expand and enhance the agriculture program at Anson High School. The project will upgrade greenhouse infrastructure (benches, dehumidifiers, industrial fans), rebuild aquaponics and hydroponics systems, and purchase simulated (computerized) animals so students can practice without risk to live animals.
The grant will support all three CTE agriculture pathways at the high school (horticulture, natural resources and animal science), enable additional field experiences and industry partnerships, and fund certifications such as OSHA 10 and beef-quality assurance. The district plans to seek a CTE adjunct instructor and create internship, apprenticeship and mentorship opportunities with local agriculture businesses and nonprofits. Dr. Pratt and staff named partner organizations that have supported the grant work, including the Caraway Foundation, Anson County Cooperative Extension and local equipment suppliers.
Board members asked whether local poultry and forestry enterprises could be integrated into the expanded program and were told those areas can be incorporated under the agriculture grant’s planned activities. The grant award also prompted staff to request community assistance in identifying potential adjunct instructors and employer partners.
