Ada County EMS staff to testify on bills moving EMS bureau and licensure compact

Acting as the Ada County Emergency Medical Services District, the board heard a briefing Feb. 18 on proposed state legislation affecting the EMS Bureau and professional licensure.
EMS staff reported that House Bill 206 (and a trailer bill, HB 207) would move the state EMS Bureau into the military division, remove the current EMS physician commission and create a part-time state medical director with oversight responsibilities rather than day-to-day operations. Staff said HB 207 also addresses the EMS licensure compact (REPLICA), which promotes interstate reciprocity so that licensed EMS professionals from participating states can obtain Idaho authorization without retesting.
The EMS briefing noted that replica participation is not nationwide but includes many states and that Idaho's changes would make licensing reciprocity easier for border-state workers. EMS staff said they plan to attend the committee hearing and to fill the room with EMS personnel to support or inform the discussion.
The board had no action items on the legislation at the meeting; EMS staff planned to follow up after the hearing.
