Forsyth County schedules Feb. 13 public hearing on closing an unopened right-of-way off Creek Ridge Lane

County staff told the Board on Jan. 16 they received a petition from Susan Christian to close an unopened right-of-way off Creek Ridge Lane in unincorporated Forsyth County and asked the board to call a public hearing.

GIO Shaili Boeing said the unopened right-of-way is a 60-foot-wide by 180-foot-long dedicated but undeveloped strip between 4347 Creek Ridge Lane (Ms. Christian’s property) and 4351 Creek Ridge Lane (owned by a real-estate firm). “The petitioner actually reached out to Matt Forsyth directly. Her name is Susan Christian,” Boeing said. Staff reviewed the request with city-county planning and concluded there would be no negative impacts to closing the right-of-way.

If the board votes to adopt the resolution to call the public hearing, the hearing would be scheduled for Feb. 13, Boeing said. Boeing said Ms. Christian will run a notice in the Winston-Salem Journal for three weeks and notify neighbors via certified mail; county tax staff will administratively divide the closed strip among adjacent property owners once the closure is complete.

Commissioners asked whether the closure would affect rear access to neighboring properties and where the affected properties access from; Boeing said access for the adjacent parcel is from the north and the closure would not cut off access. Boeing also confirmed the tax office administers the division of closed right-of-way among adjoining owners.
