The Ojai Historic Preservation Commission elected Gina McCatton chair and Lorraine Sims vice chair during its regular meeting on Jan. 9.
The commission selected McCatton by roll-call after nominations were opened. After her election the newly seated chair said she was grateful for the opportunity and said rotating leadership provides broader experience among members. "I do appreciate, the chance to have, to be the chair," McCatton said after the vote.
Commissioners then selected Lorraine Sims as vice chair by a separate roll-call vote. Sims accepted the role, saying, "I take this as a great honor. I love this city. Thank you."
The leadership change was procedural: staff had explained the one‑year term and the majority‑vote process during the nomination period. Chair and vice chair elections were followed immediately by regular agenda items, with McCatton assuming the chair duties for the remainder of the meeting.
The new leadership will preside over work the commission described as a priority this year, including a planned joint meeting with the City Council to discuss the Downtown Ojai Historic District and related funding and outreach plans.
The commission’s roll-call tally for both leadership votes was recorded in the meeting minutes.
