Board adopts Equal Employment Opportunity plan and approves communications contract amendment

Kalamazoo County commissioners adopted an updated Equal Employment Opportunity/EEO plan and approved a time-and-materials communications contract amendment that raises the departmental spending threshold for Well Design Studio; both measures passed by recorded roll-call votes or voice votes as recorded on Nov. 5.

The Kalamazoo County Board on Nov. 5 adopted an updated Equal Employment Opportunity/EEO plan and approved an amendment to a communications services agreement with Well Design Studio.

Vice Chair Taylor moved the board to adopt the EEO plan; Commissioner Morales seconded. Corporate counsel explained that the county had consulted DEI staff and moved responsibility for EEO administration to the diversity, equity and inclusion office to encourage reporting and reduce the perceived intimidation of reporting to legal counsel. The board approved the resolution by voice vote.

The board also approved a time-and-materials contract amendment with Well Design Studio that increases the county’s limit for that vendor’s services. Administration confirmed the amendment applies to department-budgeted work and that charges will be managed from individual departmental budgets. Vice Chair Taylor moved and Vice Chair Pro Tem Hepler seconded; the motion carried by roll call.

Both actions were adopted as ordinary county-business measures; no additional policy directives accompanied either vote.
