Monthly oil-and-gas update: no new applications, one cyanide exceedance reported

City staff provided the regular monthly oil-and-gas update. Libby Tartt substituted for the usual presenter and told council that, for the reporting period (mid‑October to the present), the city had received no new oil-and-gas applications and had not received an update from the county oil-and-gas administrator. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is holding virtual public meetings on related rules and stakeholders were encouraged to monitor CDPHE’s website and participation links.
Tartt reported one reportable environmental exceedance during the Aug. 15–Sept. 15 period: an exceedance involving cyanide attributable to systems-operation items; staff said they would provide more detail in December. Mayor Pro Tem Tim Noble additionally told council that, at a water commission meeting, South Adams County Water and Sanitation reported Civitas had withdrawn plans for the Owl and Falcon sites near 112th and E‑470 and would not move forward with wellbores that had been routed toward Reunion, Buffalo Run and Buffalo Mesa.
Council members extended condolences to a staff member whose family experienced a death and thanked the substitute presenter for the update. Staff said they would provide additional detail on CDPHE opportunities for public participation and the environmental exceedance in the December update.
