Christian County’s highway administrator presented a proposed update to road and bridge mileage and the associated sales‑tax apportionments on Sept. 25, and the commission voted to approve two orders (O925‑01 and O925‑02) carrying those changes.
Staff said the mileage update was the first comprehensive revision since 2012 and listed specific adjustments: C1 mileage was reduced from a previously recorded 297 miles to 273 miles based on current inventories; C2’s mileage increased by five miles; several special districts had smaller mileage adjustments. The administrator also proposed increasing the fixed monthly apportionment that goes to each side (C1 and C2) from about $17,000 to $22,000, which staff said would direct roughly $60,000 a year back into road maintenance per side.
The highway administrator noted the road-and-bridge fund balance has grown since 2021 — from roughly $500,000 to more than $5 million — and recommended allocating additional apportionments to maintain road work given rising material and labor costs. Commissioners approved the proposed orders by motion and voice vote and agreed to an annual review in May or June so special districts and county planners can budget with updated percentages.
