Commission approves combined Johnson Controls contract to replace obsolete building controls
Summary
Christian County approved a four‑year cooperative contract with Johnson Controls to combine two previously separate agreements and upgrade an obsolete control box and related PC for a critical county facility. Staff said failure of the unit would disable HVAC and alarm systems and could require evacuation.

Commissioners voted Sept. 25 to award a four‑year facilities and building automation services agreement to Johnson Controls, consolidating two earlier quotes into one contract scheduled to run through April 30, 2029. Purchasing staff and the county’s facilities representatives told the commission the upgrade addresses obsolete components for a central control box that coordinates HVAC and alarms for the Circuit Board Building.
Staff said the existing control box is no longer manufactured and replacement parts are unavailable. The upgrade includes a control-box replacement and a PC upgrade so the facility’s systems can continue to communicate. County staff described the facility as a positive‑pressure building with ventilation and alarm systems that depend on the control network; they said a failure could result in loss of fresh air and a building shutdown.
Commissioners approved the contract using the county’s cooperative contract vehicle; staff said the contract contains a four‑year coverage period that coincides with the agreement term. The motion to approve passed by voice vote.
