Christian County swears in Mark Hamilton as first in-house counsel

The Christian County Commission on Sept. 25 administered the oath of office to Mark Hamilton, who took office as the county’s first in-house counsel. County Clerk Paula administered the oath; Hamilton repeated the oath, including the pledge to “support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Missouri.”
The commission introduced Hamilton’s wife and recognized the arrival of newly hired staffer Brenda Porterfield, whom commissioners said will help support legal and administrative work. Presiding Commissioner Lynn A. Morris said the county is “proud” to have an in-house counsel for the first time, noting the change centralizes legal services for county departments.
Hamilton’s swearing-in was ceremonial; no formal vote was required. The clerk’s office handled the oath and accompanying paperwork during the meeting, and commissioners and county staff remained for a brief reception following the ceremony.
