The Pullman City Council voted Tuesday to authorize a short‑term interlocal agreement with Pullman School District No. 267 that preserves shared use of the aquatic center and other district facilities through Dec. 31 while the district completes a sale process.
Jeff Albrecht, interim city administrator, told council the parties have a long‑standing shared‑use agreement that predates the current sale negotiations involving the athletic facilities. The school district provided notice to terminate the older agreement effective Aug. 31; city staff and school officials negotiated a limited interim agreement that runs Sept. 1 through Dec. 31 with terms similar to the prior arrangement to avoid service interruptions.
Albrecht said the short‑term agreement is intended to buy time for the school district to finalize any sale and to allow staff to negotiate longer‑term shared‑use agreements for fields, gymnasiums and other spaces. The resolution (R‑30‑25) authorizes the mayor and city staff to execute the interlocal and directs staff to return to council with a proposed longer‑term agreement later this year.
Council approved the resolution by voice vote. Officials said the arrangement preserves programming continuity and shared access through the transfer period and avoids an immediate lapse in facility access for city programs.
