Department on Aging reports tens of thousands of meals delivered, Project Fresh shifts coming

Danielle, director of the Department on Aging, reported first‑quarter grant‑year service totals to the Human Services Committee. She said 713 homebound older adults across Jackson County received home‑delivered meals during the quarter, producing 74,601 meals. Including contract work with Medicaid waiver partners and Tomei PACE, Danielle said the combined count increased to 87,717 meals and 837 people served under those combined programs.
Danielle said 866 unduplicated people visited the Crouch Senior Center during the first quarter and 434 older adults attended congregate meal sites at locations including Spring Arbor, Norville and the King Center. The department provided 229 home‑support recipients with services such as homemaking, personal care and respite care.
The director outlined an upcoming change to Project Fresh: the state is moving to an online application model and will mail cards or allow phone downloads rather than issuing paper coupon books at the county center. Danielle said the department will provide assistance for older adults who need help applying online and will monitor logistics such as whether a waiting list or real‑time availability notifications are required.
Danielle also said the department is planning two shred days (targeting April and September) with ARP covering the cost, and noted ongoing planning for the "Soups On" fundraiser. The committee moved to receive the Department on Aging report by voice vote.
