County medical care facility reports December losses, projects 2025 budget shortfall

Destiny, director of the county medical care facility, presented December financials and a year‑end summary to the Jackson County Human Services Committee, reporting December revenue of $2,432,640 and expenses of $2,899,396, for a monthly net position of negative $466,756. She said the facility had 35 admissions and 36 discharges in December and that seasonal illnesses and holiday departures had reduced census relative to budget.

For the 2024 fiscal year, Destiny reported year‑to‑date revenue of about $30,161,720 and expenses of $31,702,583; the change in net position included a repayment earmark to Medicaid that the director described as approximately $4,616,684 and for which the facility has not yet received an invoice. Destiny said the facility's days cash on hand are estimated at 27 (excluding the Medicaid repayment earmark and certain MOE funds) and that accounts receivable days are at 55 (goal 54).

On the 2025 operating budget, the director said the board approved estimated operating revenue of roughly $31 million and operating expenses of about $30.8 million, producing a projected negative change in net assets after interest and depreciation. She said the budget includes $350,000 for capital expenditures funded from the facility's depreciation account. Destiny told commissioners the facility is seeking temporary contracted accounting support rather than an internal hire because of current financial constraints.

A commissioner warned that the facility could experience a cash crunch when invoices for the Medicaid repayment arrive; Destiny agreed the timing of payments will determine cash impact. The committee voted to receive the medical care facility report.
